Governor Kaine proposes statewide smoking ban, vetoes five bills set to expand the state's use of the death penalty, and vetoes a bill to require the HPV vaccine in girls.

you read my mind - i was about to post this!

so, yay, especially since i have now actually quit smoking.

now if only someone could force the insurance companies to cover the HPV vaccine for women over 26 years old. dammit.

Yeah that pissed me off somewhat, they paced it out just long enough to go pass my birthday. It was approved a month after I turned 27. WTF?

Kaine didn't veto the HPV vaccine bill

The governor just amended it -

"The governor also changed Newport News Delegate Phil Hamilton's bill requiring the H-P-V vaccine for girls entering the sixth grade. Kaine's amendment cites the sexual nature of H-P-V transmission as justification for a broader opt-out clause than offered for other mandatory vaccinations.

With the governor's amendment, parents would not be required to submit their opt-out decision in writing, but would have an opportunity to review materials prepared by health experts on the link between H-P-V and cervical cancer." - NBC12
